The Gallup results crystallize a growing political and social headwind for hyperscalers and AI firms expanding physical infrastructure. Opposition reflects worries about water consumption, electricity draw, noise, traffic, and perceived opacity around environmental impacts and tax benefits. For corporate planners, high public resistance translates into longer permitting timelines, conditional approvals, higher mitigation costs, and reputational exposure - all of which can materially affect project economics and timelines.
